Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By Six Wickets (With 6 overs to spare)

Match report The Under 13s clinched the North West Section A title with an ultimately convincing but at times nervy victory at Loughborough Greenfields.

The hosts won the toss and chose to bat and Town got off to a nervy start with Will Wade having problems with his run up bowling 3 no-balls and conceding 13 runs in the first over. In the second over however Alex Corrie took a catch off Tom Williamson to help settle the nerves.

More was to follow in the 4th over with Tom Williamson taking wickets clean bowled in successive deliveries with the hosts 19 for 3.

The next wicket fell in the 8th over Alex Davies taking a hard hit catch at mid-on off Will Such. Chris Ellis bowled a wicket maiden in his first over clean bowling the victim and a further wicket was lost to a run out in the 12th over leaving Town on top with Greenfields 48 for 6.

After 4 even overs, Jordan Davies struck twice in the 17th over, with Michael Lynch and Jordan himself taking the catches.

The innings was concluded when top scorer Oli Williams (20) was bowled by Jordan Davies who finished with figures of 3 for 8. Tom Williamson recorded by far his best figures of the season also with 3 for 8.

Chasing a target of 69 for the title Kegworth started nervously. Jordan Davies suffered a “first-baller” on the second ball of the first over & the other opener Will Wade followed for 8 (after hitting two good 4s) in the 3rd and Town were 14-2.

Fortunately Tom Williamson followed his success with the ball with a hard hitting 20 (including a big 6 to square leg) although some of the shots in the air had supporter’s nerves jangling. Tom was supported by the steadier Chris Ellis demonstrating solid defence once again perfectly suited to this situation where the run rate was never really an issue.

When Tom was finally caught at mid-on to another hard hit shot, Alex Corrie came in and the new pair made the scores tied before Alex was bowled for 5. Will Such played 4 dot balls and Chris a further 2 before the winning run came from a leg-bye leaving Chris gutted he hadn’t got bat on ball, unbeaten on 12.

With over 6 overs remaining in the end a convincing victory to Town and a deserved success for the team for a very successful season so far.

Loughborough Town await in the North West Section play-off.
