Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Newtown Linford on Sun 02 Aug 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won Eight Wickets (with 12 overs to spare)

Match report The efforts of Chairman and groundsman Dick Fowkes, 3rd X1 captain Lee Weedon, a number of parents and the boys themselves to get the ground fit for play after Saturday’s deluge were rewarded when Kegworth Town under 13s continued their winning run on Sunday at home to Newtown Linford.

Stand in skipper Chris Ellis called correctly in a very good toss to win and put the visitors into bat.

Jordan Davies and Tim Berridge opened the bowling and scoring was difficult. The first wicket fell in the 4th over following a mix up that left both batters at the same end. Further damage was inflicted in the 5th with Jordan Davies clean bowling batsmen in successive deliveries leaving the score 10 for 3.

The bowlers remained on top and further wickets were taken by Will Such (2) and Chris Ellis with a further run out. At the end of their spells the visitors were 21 for 7 after 15 overs. The good work was continued by the junior members of the team and the final 5 overs (spread over 4 bowlers) brought only an additional 12 runs with Newtown Linford’s final pair Norton and Law showing determination to remain undefeated as they totalled 33 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Some impressive bowling figures were recorded, both Jordan Davies and Will Such took 2 for 3 from their four overs, Chris Ellis 1 for 4 from four and Tim Berridge unlucky once again but bowling tightly with only 7 runs conceded from his three overs. Noddy Johnson performed admirably in his first ever game behind the wicket with a performance that suggested that this may be a role he can fill on a regular basis.

Not for the first time this season, Town rotated their batting order to involve all players. The target was duly reached in 8 overs with the loss of two wickets, Noddy Johnson carrying his bat on 12. A very good performance from the boys especially considering 5 regular players were on holiday, with the quality of the boy’s brought into the team reflecting the depth of strength of the club at the junior level. However it should be remembered that victory was only possible due to the earlier work on the wicket, well covered during the downpour.
