Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Sileby Town 'A' on Sun 05 Jul 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost By Eight wickets

Match report The Under 13s suffered their first defeat of the league season at home to Sileby following a disappointing performance.

Kegworth batted first and despite losing a Chris Ellis ct & bowled for 3 with the score on 14, started very well. Jordan Davies was on fine form and retired on 25 at the end of the 6th over with the score on 33.

Noddy Johnson & Will Wade initially continued the good work (assisted by wides, no balls and byes) and the score was 52 for 1 at the end of 8th over. A very strong position.

However the 9th over was a disaster for Kegworth. Noddy was run out for 5 on the first ball. Then Will was leg before off the next ball (also for 5) and Alex Corrie was bowled without scoring on the 6th. Things got worse in the 10th when Tom Williamson was bowled without scoring and only one run had been added before Ben Hooper was bowled without scoring in the 11th.

In a nightmare 5 over spell Kegworth scored 2 runs and lost 5 wickets.

The 14th over provided some respite, with 9 wides and a 4 that probably owed more to the field than the batter leaving Town on 67. Extras continued to provide most of the runs until Michael Lynch fell for 5 in the 17th.

Nick Briggs then hit a swift 8 before being caught in the deep at the start of the final over. Mitch Williams was the 4th batsmen to be bowled without scoring before the returning Jordan was caught off the penultimate ball of the final over without adding to his score. Harry White carried his bat and had been at the crease from the third ball of the 10th over for his 4 runs.

After some strong words from Mark, Town started brightly with the ball. Chris Ellis took a wicket, clean bowled, with his first ball in the 5th over & the score was 15 for 1. He struck again, clean bowled, with his first ball of the 7th (at that stage his figures were 2 for 0) with the score 26 for 2. At that stage some poor fielding allowed the score to rise and when the rain interrupted play Sileby were 33 for 2 after 7.

The rain came at the wrong time for Kegworth and after some initial difficulties with the wet ball they never really recovered, although at 44 for 1 after 11 we were still in the game. However the 12th over saw a big 6 from Fred Demelo and an unfortunate 4 byes. Two batsmen were able to retire on 25 and no further wickets fell before Sileby reached the required total in the 17th over, with Town missing the 5th regular bowler with Will Such on holiday.

In this top of the table clash, too many Town players put in a below par performance and only Jordan and Nick with the bat & Chris with the ball matched up to recent performances.
