Barrow Town v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 31 May 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By Seven Wickets
Match report
Kegworth Town under 13’s achieved their 4th victory in a row at a weakened Barrow side on Sunday.
However the game started poorly for Town when Barrow batted first. Some initial wayward bowling (21 runs were scored as extras before a run came from the bat) followed by some aggressive hitting from O James took the score to 44 for 1 after 5 overs and Kegworth looked in trouble.
Fortunately much tighter spells from Jordan Davies and Chris Ellis turned the game back to Kegworth. From his 4 overs, Davies finished with 2-11 with Ellis taking 2 for 8 and the score after the 13th over was a more hopeful 65-5.
With the spine of the innings broken, Barrow continued to struggle. Wickets fell regularly and Barrow were all out in the final over for 90. Mitch Williams took two wickets, Matt Briggs one with two run outs before Will Wade returned to finish the innings.
Kegworth started solidly and the score was on 35 when Hooper fell for 5 on the first ball of the 8th over. The innings stuttered slightly with only 3 runs coming from 3 overs but soon recovered with Captain and Vice, Will Wade and Chris Ellis proving a strong partnership once again. Chris Ellis had to retire at 25 in the 14th and Will followed at the start of the 17th with only 5 more required for victory.
With the scores tied two wickets were lost (including Tom Williamson for 4, run out seeking the glory run) but Alex Corrie finally hit the winning run with over two overs to spare.
