Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Long Whatton on Sun 24 May 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By 8 Wickets (With over 5 overs to spare)
Match report
Another convincing victory for Kegworth under 13s.
Long Whatton won the toss and batted first. The opening overs were fairly even with the first wicket falling to a run out with the score on 18. At the first change Long Whatton were 31 for 1 after 6 overs.
However the scoring accelerated and after 9 overs the score was 55 for 1 & Long Whatton felt they were in the box seat. However the breakthrough came in the 10th over for Jordan Davies, with Chris Ellis taking the catch at mid off.
Three further wickets fell in the next two overs firstly to Michael Lynch and then two to George Marrable (with Michael Lynch taking a smart catch at square leg)and the score looked a lot healthier for Town at 61 for 5.
The innings got back on track after the mini collapse and 35 runs were added in the final 8 overs for the loss of 2 further wickets (one to Alex Davies (caught Corrie and a run out) leaving the game looking nicely balanced.
Town lost 2 early wickets, Jordan Davies a little unlucky to be bowled off his pads and Noddy Johnson run out leaving the score 14 for 2.
However as at Grace Dieu, Chris Ellis & Will Wade turned the innings around. Both batted straight & sensibly. This together with excellent running between the wickets ensured the score kept ticking over. Chris retired first with the score on 76 in the 11th over (with 6 twos a 3 and a 4 in his 25) whilst Will soon followed with his 25 including 2 twos, 2 fours and a long six over square leg. This was the pairs second 50 partnership of the season, on each occasion steadying the ship after the loss of early wickets.
Alex Corrie and Ben Hooper saw Town to victory without the loss of further wickets (with Alex managing a couple of boundaries to leg in his 13 not out) and with more than five overs remaining.
