Broomleys v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 10 May 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By 124 Runs
Match report
The under 13’s recorded an emphatic 124 run victory at Broomleys on Sunday 10th May.
However it should be recognised that Broomleys did only field 8 players (some of whom were well within the age limit). However you can only beat what is put in front of you & it was a good performance from the boys.
Broomleys won the toss and invited Kegworth to bat. Chris Ellis & Jordan Davies opened for Town. The opening bowlers managed to obtain some movement of the ball on an artificial wicket that had a tendency to keep low and the opening pair performed well to reach the first change of bowling with a score of 37 from six overs.
The subsequent bowlers didn’t match the quality of the opening bowlers and the score accelerated. Chris was the first to retire at the start of the 12th over with the score on 89 and Jordan soon followed in the 13th over with the score on 105.
The only wicket fell with the score on 106. Will Wade was guilty of playing a shot with his head in the clouds but as this was his first dismissal of the season having scored 53 runs, the team can have no complaints with their captain.
Alex Johnson (22 no) and Harry White (17 no) continued the run scoring as Kegworth reached an impressive 175 for 1.
Facing such a commanding total, the captain took the opportunity of allowing the younger players the opportunity to bowl. All performed well, with Alex Corrie in particular, following a difficult first over (containing three wides), impressing with three wickets. Nick Briggs took two wickets and Michael Lynch one before Will Such wrapped up the Broomleys innings. A special mention should be made of Harry Patrick who was unbeaten on 29 for Broomleys scoring all but 3 of their runs that came from the bat.
