Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Ashby Hastings on Sun 26 Apr 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost By 19 Runs

Match report Overall a disappointing performance from the Under 13's who can undoubtedly perform better than they did on this day.

The game was lost with the ball. We bowled 18 wides (with a further 4 No balls due to the placement of the ball). To compound the problem we suffered 5 byes from the wides/no balls and also 5 runs from the bat from the no balls.

Each of the nine bowlers bowled a wide/no ball (with six of the bowlers being at least repeat offendors)

Ashby batted first and lost a wicket in the first over to Will Wade. The opening overs were fairlyly tight and when the second wicket fell in the 5th over (again to Will) the score was only 19, with 28 runs from the first six overs.

Unfortunately the 7th to 10th overs conceded 41 runs with the loss of only one wicket. The position improved over the last 8 overs (with 42 runs conceded) but their total of 111 for 4 always looked a tough target.

The Kegworth innings started reasonably with an opening stand of 25 (and at the 6 over point we had scored the same as Ashby (28) with the loss of fewer wickets). Unfortunately three wickets fell in consecutive overs and we fell behind the rate.

Chris Ellis was perhaps unlucky with his LBW decision (one which even had the ASHBY supporters wondering whether video referrals were available and which had the old timers Wade and Westby shaking their heads and reminiscing over the poor decisions they’d suffered over the years). Although Chris accepted the decision at the time, he made up for this at great length during the day & I don’t think Jon Such (because yes it was our own umpire who made the decision) should expect a Christmas card from the younger Ellis.

Will Wade played a captains innings coming in a 4, being not out for 22 and late on Ben Hooper moved into double figures. (However it should be said that 20 of our runs came from the 16th & 17th overs from the 6th & 7th bowlers who probably wouldn't have bowled if the game had been tight).

Positives for Kegworth were the performance of Will Wade (22 NO & 2 for 7), tidy bowling spells from Harry White, Chris Ellis (found the edge very close to the WK and beat the bat on a few occasions) and Sam O'Neill and a double figure score from Ben Hooper.

A poor result but the boys can (and will) do better
