Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost By 9 runs

Match report A marvellous game where Kegworth Town played superbly and were very unlucky not to win against an older, stronger, much more experienced who started to lose their nerve at the end of the match.

Appleby batted first and proceeded to lose 10 wickets in their 16 overs. During that time Kegworth missed a couple of run outs and dropped 4 catches as well. This in no way detracts from how well this young side played. Their bowling was superb, bowling just 8 wides in 16 oves compared to almost 30 wides in the previous game against Appleby! Everyone contrbuted with Dan and Haiden both taking great catches, Tristan, George & Sam bowling perfect lines and weighing in 2, 1 and 1 wickets respectively. Then in the 2nd half of the innings Ben took a brilliant C+B and then took another wicket,George Jones took 3 catches and 2 stumpings, and Amber took 3 wickets in an over to really peg Appleby back.

When we batted Sam and Tristan got us off to a very steady start with Tristan very unlucky to be adjudges run out when he clearly appeared in and the umpire was behind the stumps. George J and Dan batted steadily but both were out once, before George K and Haiden steadied things for the loss of 1 wicket. Ben and Amber came to the wicket with 21 needed off 4 overs. They scored 11 off teh first 2 overs leaving a target of 10 off the final 2. ben hit the 2nd ball of teh over to the boundary behind square but as he swivelled he hit his wickets, and Amber was out as well to teh next ball. They heroically added 10 off teh final over to leave us 10 short of victory.

This was the best U11 team performance I have seen in 2 years as Coach. They played with guts, belief, tenacity and bravery, and were desperately unlucky to lose. George Jones deserves special mention for his heroics behind the stumps, but for her heroics with bat and ball MOTM was awarded to Amber.
