Long Whatton v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 11's Incrediball on Fri 08 May 2009 at 18.00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost By 3 runs

Match report A narrow defeat for Kegworth, with Long Whatton scoring 4 off the last ball of the match to win the game.

The story of the game was about catches. Long Whatton took 2 good catches, whereas Kegworth dropped several, and had just one of these been taken the result would have been a win for us.

The result does not do justice to a great team performance, with many playing their first ever competitive U11 match for KTCC against a Long Whatton side who have already played this season. Every member of the team came out of it with a lot of credit.

George J and Myles F batted well against some very good opening bowling, with one wicket falling when George was caught in the covers. Sam T and George K then batted well, with Sam hitting the first two balls he faced for crashing fours through square leg. George was unfortunate to be bowled when the ball just clipped the bails. George BS and Joe H batted well, with Joe hitting a very sweet 4. George hit a beautiful square cut which was caught at full stretch by the tallest member of their team. Any other fielder would have seen it sail over their head for 6!! Ben O and Tristan K then added 26 in the last 4 overs, helped in part by some wayward bowling. Ben hit 2 great 4s, with one lovely leg glance for 4, and Tristan defended stoically against some very straight bowling. A good batting effort, with very few chances given, the bad ball put away, and the straight ball defended well.

When KTCC took to the field everybody bowled well, and George J kept wicket with some style. George K bowled 2 overs for just 6 runs, and Sam T bowled 3 very good overs, conceding 4 runs. The LW coach commended Sam saying he was almost unplayable! George BS bowled 2 good overs with 8 dot balls. The pick of our bowlers was Myles F with 3 overs 2 wickets for 13 runs, including a stunning caught and bowled in the last over. Ben and Tristan bowled economically, with Tristan taking his first KTCC wicket with his last ball, exacting revenge on the batsman who had hit him for 2 fours earlier in the over.
Our last bowler was Joe H who bowled a maiden and took a wicket with his first ball for the U11s.

So, a great performance, and an exciting match that we narrowly failed to win. Every member of the team deserves credit for their own performance, but Myles F was awarded MOTM for his performance with the ball and in the field.
