Kegworth Town Cricket Club Experimental (Under 12's) v Huncote on Sun 12 Jul 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By 32 runs
Match report
An absorbing match played on a pudding of a wicket at Long Whatton, that had obviously had no cover during the rain of recent days. The ball stayed low all game which made batting very difficult indeed, and credit to both sides for coping with it.
Huncote won the toss and put Kegworth in to bat. We got off to a great start with Seb smashing 10 off the first over before we werr pegged back by some very good bowling from Huncotes' opening pair. 3 wickets fell in the next 3 overs all bowled by balls keeping very low, one of which was harshly adjudged out when it was bowled and pearolled on to the stumps with the SL umpire still returning to his position!
Tim and Tom steadied the ship taking us on to 219 for 3 at the half way stage with some very mature batting. This really was a game to defend the good ball, nudge the singles and go after the rare wide ball. Tyler and Jacob exploded into the game with Tyler hitting 2 magnificent fours over the field to take the score to 241 for 3 and give the last pair a chance to take us abve 250. George and Josh then faced some very accurate pace and spin bowling to take the score onto 256 for 5.
We were not sure at this stage if this would be enough so after a pep talk advising the team to bowl sensibly and be alert in the field to make singles difficult, out we went.
It became apparent that Huncote were holding their best pair back until last, so we held Timmy back to bowl at them. Seb opened the bowling, and bowled 3 magnificent overs with two of them maidens. A superb line and length just outside off stump was unplayable, forcing Huncote into a risky single off the last ball of the first over which Tyler threw in for a magnificent run out. Tyler bowled the 2nd and 4th over Bowling their opener and only conceding 7 runs off his two overs.
Owen and Jacob bowled to the next pair, creating even more pressure leading to a run out of Jacob's third ball with a brilliant throw in from Josh. Owen once again bowled a beautiful line and only went for 2 singles off his 2 overs. Josh and George bowled to the next pair with a dropped catch off Josh swiftly gathered by Owen to throw in to Tom who ran out the Huncote player superbly. In his next over Josh had a catch taken in the deep by George the first ball after Seb had moved George into position. Inspired captaincy that a certain Mr R Ponting could have learned from!!
By the time the last pair came in Huncote had been restricted to 206 for 5, before Timmy, Seb and George pegged the last pair back to restrict them to 224 for 6, with George taking the final wicket with a beautiful delivery off teh 4th ball of the last over.
Man of teh Match was awarded to Tyler Day who played the perfect game, contributing runs, wickets, run outs and great fielding all round. Mention should go to Tom Waterfield who kept wicket quite brilliantly on a wicket that was keeping very low all game. This was one of teh most satisfying performances of the season by the team, playing without one or two regulars. They ground their way to a reasonable total and then never let Huncote off the hook with some breathtaking fielding and bowling. They should all be very proud of the way they all performed.
