Kegworth Town Cricket Club Newark Alliance XI v Old Dalby on Sun 27 Jul 2008 at 2pm
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won by 36 runs
Match report
A hard, dry, green track on a very hot Sunday afternoon.
Two young sides, both with ideas victory.
Lost the toss and was sent in to bat, which was the plan anyway. (After leather chasing 300+ yesterday.... bat....)
L. Woolley (19) and G. Ward (2) opened up, but were soon back in the shed along with the young R. Burns (0), who managed to pick out a fielder first ball.
M. Briggs batted well and made 20 and contributed to a slightly stabilising partnership with L. Weedon (19).
More wickets fell and it looked grim........ Enter Paras ‘IPL’ Sood.
A quick fire 74, with some spectacular power hitting moved Kegworth in to “reasonable score” territory.
P. Sood was the last wicket to fall, leaving Kegworth on 168 all out of 34.1 overs.
A firm team talk expressing the need to bowl tight, field well, and do not throw away runs as extras must have worked.
J. Harding and J. Field bowled superbly leaving Old Dalby on just 24 for 2 of 10. E. Hodge and G. Isaac continued the good bowling, and the run rate got bigger and bigger for the visitors.
Wickets fell for Isaac, Hodge and Weedon. A superb run out by R. Burns helped Kegworth keep it tight.
Harding came back for a second spell and put the game out of Old Dalby’s reach by taking another 3 for 1 of 3 overs.... superb.
Final score of 132 all out after 38 overs.... a good game, but Kegworth should have cleaned up quicker and easier.
Captaincy returns to A. Goodwin next week for an away match at Newbold Verdon. .....phew...
