Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 15's v Barrow Town B on Wed 03 Jul 2013 at 18:00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won by 35 runs
Match report
A hard fought victory on a tough wicket that sees the lads secure their place in the top group at the half way stage of the season.
At 48/5 against a decent Barrow B bowling attack, we looked in trouble. Tim had contributed 30 of those 48 runs before holing out when going for a big shot. It took 2 innings of great maturity from Josh and Mitch to shared a partnership of 43 in 8 overs to give us a reasonable score, before the Barrow Bowler Shelton took a 4 wicket maiden to almost finish us off. Josh and Will then steadied the ship to get us to 116 off 20 overs, which we expected to be enough.
When we bowled, we took regular wickets, with Will and Tim taking a wicket in each of their first 2 overs to have Barrow at 20 for 4 off 4. Special mention must go to Tim for taking one of the best catches you will ever see that drew gasps and shouts of astonishment from the boundary on both sides.
Barrow then ticked along until the 11th over, but were well behind the run rate thanks to some tight bowling all round from Tom Henson and Mitch, who only conceded 8 runs from their collective 4 overs. Tom had impressive figures of 2-1-2-1.
Then it was Myles turn to take centre stage, and after going for 5 in his first over he took a hat trick in his next over, which was a maiden to boot. He has Harry to thank for starting the ball rolling, taking a difficult catch at mid wicket. Barrow were unable to recover from this, and the game ended after Ben, George, Harry and Will all bowled some nice steady overs, with Will taking his 3rd wicket. At the close, Barrow were 81 for 9, giving us victory by 35 runs.
Though Myles deserves his accolade for the his hat trick, and Tim for 30 priceless runs, 2 for 9 and a spellbinding catch, man of the match goes elsewhere this week, to Josh Faulks. Coming in at 48/5, without Josh's innings we would have not scored a total that was defendable. It was probably the best I have seen him bat, and whilst he had some luck, he deserved it on a difficult wicket.
Altogether a very satisfying performance, where the team started to put some of things we have discussed in play in the field, several batted very sensibly, and our bowling unit delivered once again.
At the half way stage we have finished joint top of the league with L'Boro Town,, and now go forward to the A league with Town, Carillon, Long Whatton, Barrow, Old Boys, Gracedieu, Ashby and Ibstock. Fixtures will hopefully be on the website by the weekend, but I expect that we will not play Town or Carillon again. I believe (but don't quote me!) that we carry our points forward which puts us level with Town, Barrow and Ashby, 4 ahead of Old Boys, Gracedieu and Ibstock and 8 clear of Whatton and Carillon.
So, every game will be difficult from now on, and we cannot go into games assuming that we will win. With holidays upon us, we will play a number of games with a weakened side, but opponents will be in a similar position. We should aim to finish as high as possible, but the lads should know that there is no shame in finishing outside the top 2 in this much tougher league.
