Sileby Town v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 15's on Wed 01 May 2013 at 18:00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report A great start to the season, where this very talented bunch of young men started where they left off last September. If you aren't excited by what these lads could achieve in the next 3 or 4 years you must have ice in your veins!!

We won the toss and elected to bowl, to get into the game before we batted. Sileby Town were very welcoming and their bottom pitch looked a picture after the dunking it has taken in recent months.

Our opening bowlers, Lewis and Mitch were soon causing Sileby all sorts of problems with their line and length, and it was very difficult for their openers to penetrate our field and score runs. Tom W took a very sharp catch behind off Mitch to dismiss Smith for 2, before a spell of 7 maidens in 9 overs from Lewis, Myles and Anthony taking 4 wickets along the way had the game under control. Lewis returned impeccable figures of 4 overs 3 maidens 2 runs 0 wickets which really set the tone for the later bowlers.

The spin twins of Myles and Ant then took over after the initial great work from Mitch and Lewis. Myles bowled 4 overs for 6 runs, including 2 maidens, one of which was a double wicket maiden. Ant contributed with 2 wicket maidens in figures of 3 overs 2 maidens 2 for 3, leaving Sileby reeling at 18 for 5 after 12 overs.

If Sileby thought the remaining bowling would be easier to face, they hadn't accounted for Messrs Harrigan, Cockerill, Faulks (J) and Henson, who wrapped the innings up with combined figures of 7 overs 2 maidens, 4 for 12, with a run out thrown in for good measure.

Playing his first match for Kegworth, Tom Harrigan contributed well with 2 tight overs where the only runs scored were 2 wides, and we picked up a wicket with a great direct hit from Myles in Tom's second over. Tom will be a great addition to the team with his quicker flatter spin giving us another option, and with a catch off the last ball of the innings and some sharp fielding, he showed that we have gained a great new fielder too.

Will bowled his usual tight looping line and was rewarded with figures of 3 overs 1 maiden 2 for 7, with the maiden being a wicket maiden. Josh bowled a very controlled line to take 2 for 0 off his one double wicket maiden over, and Tom Henson chipped in with a nice tight over as well going for just 1 run.

I was particularly encouraged by the accuracy of our bowling, with a lot of full and straight deliveries giving us 5 dismissals bowled and 1 caught behind. In the field we were sharp and athletic, stopping the singles, and taking our chances when they came along with 5 different fielders taking catches and scoring with a run out.

Our innings was then fairly straightforward and we cruised to victory off 6 overs. Tom Waterfield blazed his way to 18 with 3 4s, before being bowled, Tim fell for 1, and Tom Henson hit consecutive balls for 4 to win the game leaving George Jones on 2 not out.

So a comfortable win in what I expected to be a difficult start to the season. Three more games in the cup to go in May, with Ashby Hastings looking like the tricky fixture.

Man of the match was it's usual impossible decision, and I expect most if not all of the lads to pick up the award at least once in the season. Though the spin twins took the wickets, and Will and Josh chipped in at the end, this week it was given to Lewis for his incredible opening spell of 4-3-2-0 which set the tone for the whole game, and set up the rest of the innings for the wicket takers.

Barrow B away next week, where we welcome back Harry into the team, and also Ben and Biffer Bakewell-Smith who both contributed well to a narrow defeat for the very young B team last night. We should all spare a thought for Sam Wildgust as well, who was due to open the batting for us this summer until his dislocated kneecap put paid to the first half of his season. I am sure that we all wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see his flashing cover drive at a cricket ground near us soon!
