Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Syston Town U13s on Wed 11 Jul 2012 at 18.00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
A match where we nearly made it to the County Cup Final, but in the end fell just a few runs short of posting a winning total.
Batting first, we lost quick early wickets. George Jones was bowled to a beauty of a delivery from the first ball of the match, a ball that would have got most club cricketers out early in their innings, swinging viciously and hitting the base of middle stump. George B-S and Sam Wildgust soon followed to the same bowler for 2 and 10 respectively, and we were 15 for 3 off 3 overs.
The ship was steadied then by Mitch and Tom Henson, who added 25 each before retiring. We were one batsman/batting performance short in the team tonight, and that showed as we only scored 17 runs off the last 5 overs, when we should have been targetting 30+ to get us to 120-130 runs.
When we fielded, Syston got off to a steady start, but their openers and number 3 punished our 2 spinners particularly, scoring 25, 25 and 17, before they reached our total with 14 balls to spare.
So at the end of the game we were left to reflect on fine individual performances from Mitch Williams and Tom Henson, a very good fielding affort from all 11 lads, and some fine bowling from Sam Wildgust, Mitch Williams, Will Cockerill and Tom Henson. We fell about 20 runs short of a good total, which was just one good innings from one batsman.
The lads should hold their heads up and be very proud of tehir achievement in reaching the semi final of the County Cup. 66 teams entered, and we got to the last 4, taking the scalps of Loughborough Town and Austrey along the way. If we'd said at the start of the summer that we would reach the Cup semi final, I am sure we would all have been delighted.
Man o fthe match was a very difficult choise, but awarded to Tom Henson for his wonderfully contructed innings. Mitch and Sam Wildgust came might close to taking the award from Tom.
