Loughborough Carillon v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 19's on Fri 18 May 2012 at 18:00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets (With 2 overs to spare)
Match report
The inaugural academy league game was played at a cold and damp Moor Lane ground on Friday 18th May.
Carillon had first knock but with Will Wade taking a wicket in his first over Town took the early initiative. Tim Berridge also opened tidily and after the 5th over, in which Will took his second victim clean bowled Carillon were 21 for 2.
Carillon fought back with a 35 run 3rd wicket stand, which was broken by Will Such in the 11th trapping T Roalfe LBW. Josh Faulk’s continued Town’s progress with two wickets in the next over including the crucial wicket of Kyle Grobler, who had scored 32 at more than a run a ball.
In his next over Will Such put Town firmly on top with two further wickets leaving Carillon 62 for 7 after 13.
Carillon fought back thanks to some big hitting from M Middleton with 3 boundaries in a 20 run over but the brief cameo was ended by a nice catch by Jordan Davies on the mid wicket boundary, and the innings was concluded at 97 in the 19th over with Tom Williamson and Jordan sharing the final wickets.
In reply Jordan truly got into the spirit of 20/20 going for a big hit from the first delivery but unfortunately failed to clear the infield and was caught by Grobler. Seb Al-Hariri continued the aggressive approach but with more success with 5 boundaries in the second over. Although Seb fell caught and bowled in the third his 24 from just 11 deliveries left Town clearly ahead of the required rate.
Marrable, Wade, Williamson and O’Neill all made steady contributions assisted by the “wide ball down the leg side” academy rule, keeping Town in the box seat continually ahead of the run rate
It was left to Will Such (undefeated on 18) and Tim Berridge to steer Town home by 4 wickets with 2 full overs to spare, any closing nerves eased by a four overthrows five to Berridge.
