Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Loughborough Town 'A' on Sun 07 Aug 2011 at 10:00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By 5 wickets
Match report
A brilliant way to end the season by the U13As. Other than Lewis Griggs, we fielded our strongest side against a Loughborough Team missing 3 or 4 from our narrow defeat earlier in the season.
Loughborough won the toss and decided to bat. They got off to a great start and at the halfway stage were 64 for 0. They really kicked on from here to end their innings on 140 for 2. Our 2 wickets didn't come until late in the game, with Harry and Tim both bowling one of the Town middle order. There were two contentious decisions when Town's openers appeared to be caught behind and then run out but their umpire ruled both not out. Some very good bowling from Tim, Mitch and Will kept the score down with their 13 overs only going for 60 runs, but Josh and Sam took some punishment from the Town batsmen conceding 78 off their 7 overs.
When Kegworth batted, the team recieved instructions to go for the win, as there was no point us wondering if only at the end of the game. We were always up with the rate, with Josh, Alex, Mitch W, Jacob, Tom and Sam all contributing massively to this. Harry was bowled in the second over for 1. Credit to Harry for agreeing to open at short notice after Tim was stung by a wasp in the field.Harry was bowled by Esther Stock, our old adversary from indoor cricket who seems to have added a yard of pace! This brought Mitch Moseley in at number 3, who added 6 very quick singles before being bowled by Taylor. Meanwhile, at the other end Josh Faulks was easing his way to 27 not out including 5 fours.
When Josh retired we had Tim and Alex at the crease, and Tim was unfortunate to be run out for 3 to a decision that looked as out as the Town batsmen who was given in earlier in the match. Alex and Mitch Williams then set about keeping us up with the run rate with a fabulous partnership of 50. Alex hit 2 sixes and a four. One of his sixes was a huge pull out of the ground onto Nottingham Road. Mitch batted with huge maturity to score 25 not out, with only 2 fours, 13 singles and 2 twos. He was joined by Jacob Consterdine, who played a crucial innings to get us within 19 runs of victory with 3 overs to go. Jacob hit 13 off the 17th over with three stunning straight and cover drives for 4 that Town couldn't stop despite having pretty much every fielder on the boundary!
Mitch and Jacob both retired with in a few balls of each other bringing Sam and Tom to the wicket with clear instructions to swing the bat from ball one! Sam hit a brilliant 4 off Esther Stock that was hit so hard that it passed the fielder at mid on in a blink of the eye, and was over the boundary before they could react. He was very unlucky to play on off the next ball, but his 5 runs were critical.
Tom smashed 10 runs with 2 fours through the covers before being caught with the score on 138 off the last ball of the 19th over.
Myles and Will were then at the crease needing 3 to win off 6 balls. They ran a bye off the first ball, and then with third man up Myles glanced the next ball for 4 and the game was won.
We had 11 Man of the Match performances, but the trophy was given to Jacob for hi sinnings, and the plundering of 13 runs off the 17th over, when we needed a big over to keep us in the game.
Interestigly, we scored 134 off the bat, with only 9 extras, compared to Town scoring 19 in extras and 121 off the bat.
A very proud day for players, parents and coaches alike. We are top of the league and can only be caught by Town or Hastings who play each other next sunday. I am waiting for a ruling from the league about what happens now!!
