Loughborough Town 'A' v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 05 Jun 2011 at 10:00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost by 14 runs
Match report
Our first big test of the season saw us come up short against Loughborough Town.
Without wanting to show our opponents any disrespect, we beat ourselves with a very poor bowling and fielding display compared to our usual high standards. We gave away as many wides and no balls (38 runs) in this game than we had done in our previous 3 matches combined, and gave away at least 4 fours to fielding errors to set ourselves a stiff task when it was time for us to chase. Yet, we still only lost the match by 14 runs.
The game started early because Town had a senior match in the afternoon and we didn't really wake up until our own innings.
Town's openers got off to a brisk start facing Mitch W and Josh and racing to 42 off the first six overs. Lewis and Will entered the attack and the run rate continued. Will did bowl a reasonable spell of 4 overs for 24 runs, and Josh and Tom W combined well to run out the Town opener with the score on 67. This was to be our only success of the Town innings and they raced along to 144 off their 20 overs. We were quiet in the field, often static, tried to stop too many shots with feet and simply gave Town too many free runs. For Extras to top score really does tell the tale of our performance.
At the interval we discussed the need to go after the total hard from the start, and this cost us off the very first ball of our innings when Tim attempted to pull a ball from their opening left armer and was bowled on the top of his middle and off stump. To be fair to Tim, this is the first time he has been dismissed in 5 games, and he now enjoys an average of 104!
In at 3 was Tom W, joining Josh. Josh set about the bowling with some fierce hitting and was out LBW when on 20 from 24 balls and the score on 31. At the other end Tom W was quietly accumulating runs when he was joined at the crease by Alex Davies, who hit his first 2 balls for 4.
Tom then accelerated his innings with some wonderful pull shots and an imperious cover drive for 4, retiring on 28 off 26 balls. Mitch Williams soon followed for a second ball duck when he edged to the keeper, making the score 63 for 3
Alex was out soon afterwards for a very rapid 23 off 16 balls when the score was on 67 and the game looked up. Mitch Moseley was also out for a duck off 2 balls and Sam Wildgust for 2 off 6 balls. Jacob Consterdine then gave us a glimmer of hope with a cameo innings of 20 off 15 balls before being out LBW in the last over of the match but we were too far behind, leaving Lewis to score 4, Tom Henson to score 4 not out and Will to end on 1 not out.
Man of the match was Tom W for great glove work, conceding no byes, and giving us a chance with his 28 not out. Our batting was a very creditable performance and we should not be disheartened by the result. We simply bowled and fielded badly, and beat ourselves. Let's put the result behind us, and be ready for Town when they visit us in August.
