Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won 100 runs
Match report
Probably the best U13 performance in my time as a manager at Kegworth. Comprehensive, Stunning, Crushing, PERFECT!!
Well done to the lads for the team spirit, their talking and encouragement on the field, and their skill with both bat and ball.
On a wet day, we lost the toss and were put in. We cruised through our innings with Tim scoring 25 not out from 23 balls. When Tim retired this brought Harry to the crease, who continued where he had left off in recent U15B innings hitting 2 of the first 3 balls he faced for 4. A rapid 16 off 18 balls from Harry took us to 82 for the fall of our first wicket, when he was bowled while attempting a pull on a ball that kept low. This brought Alex Davies to the crease, who raced to 18 off 14 balls before being bowled in a similar way to Harry. Josh was next in, but soon after we lost our 3rd wicket when Sam got a leading edge and was caught and bowled for 16 off 30 balls. A creditable display from Sam, anchoring the innings until the 16th over. The last 4 overs were played out by Josh and Mitch. Josh reached 7 not out at the end, and Mitch hit 15 off 12 balls and survived a huge LBW appeal! So at the end of our 20 overs we had hammered 143, with 46 extras. Some great calling, running and striking the ball saw us score our highest U13 score in my time.
When Old Boys batted the tone was soon set when Lewis took a caught and bowled with the first ball and bowled a wicket maiden first up. In the second over Jacob Consterdine threw a great throw and Tom did well with the gloves to run out their other opener without scoring, leaving them 7 for 2. A great opening spell from Lewis and Will that had Old Boys 11 for 2 off 6 overs meant that the match was already out of reach by the time we made our first bowling changes.
Tom and Jacob then bowled 2 overs a piece and took 1 and 2 wickets respectively with the score only moving on to 27 for 5 off 10. Two more catches from Lewis has secured his place at mid off/on for some time!!
The next bowling change brought on Mitch and Josh, who both bowled with great accuracy and frightening pace. Mitch bowled 2 overs and took 3 for 2 including a wicket maiden and a caught and bowled. On another day Josh would have achieved similar figures, after beating the bat 8 times in 12 balls!!
Next up were Harry and Tim. Harry bowled a wicket maiden in his first over, wth Sam taking a good catch to take Old Boys 9th wicket. Tim bowled a solid over, before Harry finished things off with the final wicket, a caught and bowled, to finish with 2 for 3 and Old Boys 43 all out.
Man of the Match was awarded to Mitch for his rapid 15 and 3 wickets for 2 runs, but in truth there were 11 Man of the Match performances. Tim, Sam, Alex, Harry and Mitch with the bat. Lewis, Will, Jacob, Mitch, Tom, Josh and Harry with the ball. Tom's glovework on a day when the ball jagged around and kept low was brilliant, and our fielding was of the highest class, with 6 catches taken and a run out. The complete performance. Thanks to all 11 of them.
