Match report ANOTHER STUNNING PERFORMANCE FROM THE U13A TEAM.....

After sunday's magnificent performance confidence was very high in the changing room before the game started, but the team knew they had to put that behind them and start all over again.

A changed team due to absence meant that the batting order was different to sunday, but if anything, the performance was even better.

We won the toss and decided to bat on a dark evening, but the performance would have lifted the gloom on the darkest of days, and Kegworths performance soon brightened us up! Tim and Tom Waterfield opened and Tim soon raced to 27 not out off 16 balls including five 4s. This brought Harry to the crease, and he too raced to 25 no off 18 balls with four 4s. Tom Henson then was in and out quickly adjudged LBW for 1 with the score on 84, but his chance to shine would come later.

A wonderful 25 off eight balls with four 4s and a 6 from Mitch Williams followed, and while we were drawing breath Mitch Moseley came in to join Tom W who had patiently built his innings at the other end. Tom retired on 25 off 26 balls, including three 4s. This was Tom's first chance to open and he took it well, holding an end up and batting to his strengths. Mitch Moseley carried his bat through the rest of the innings to finish on 24 not out off 22 balls including four 4s. A superb first knock of the season from Mitch, anchoring our middle order to prevent Sileby from getting to bowl at our 9,10,jack. George Jones came in and out for 3 and Myles Faulks remained 6 not out at the end.

Kegworth ended their innings on 171 for 2, and other than the individual performances there were several pleasing aspects of the performance. We scored 136 of the bat in the innings and took 36 singles and five 2's. 46 runs in this way helps to turn a good score into a winning score, and the teams running between the wickets and calling was magnificent.

We should give mention to Sileby, who were a young team. Their manager gave us huge credit at the end of our innings, but his team kept plugging away and that is to their credit.

We took a decision to use players that hadn't had much of a bat when we took to the field, and the team stuck to their task and restricted Sileby to just 77 for 4 from their 20 overs without using 2 of our main strike bowlers, Tim and Mitch W.

Lewis and Ben opened the bowling and Sileby reached 22 for 0 off these 4 overs. Lewis bowled 10 dot balls and only conceded 2 singles, and Ben conceded four 4s to a very good opening batsman.

This brought Tom Henson and Will Cockerill into the attack and we soon had our first 2 wickets as these two took their chance to shine. Tom H took a wicket with his fourth ball, bowling their opener for 20 with the score on 28. Will bagged the other opener for 8 in his second over, a wicket maiden. The batsman skied a catch that was comfortably taken by Tom Henson, making the score 32 for 2.

Sileby's nos 3 and 4 then put a good partnership together and scored 31 off 10 overs with some very tight bowling from Myles, George, Mitch M and Harry restricting Sileby so they had no chance of getting near our score.

Lewis, Ben, Tom, Will, Myles and George all came back and bowled a 3rd over at the end of the innings when it became the Ben and Harry show! Harry scored with a direct hit from cover to run out the Sileby number 3, and then took a catch to dismiss their number 4 off Ben's bowling. After going for 20 in his first 2 overs Ben bowled a wonderful 3rd over taking a wicket, having a dropped catch and narrowly missing a bowled opportunity with a ball that bamboozled the Sileby number 6. Sileby ended on a creditable 77 for 4. Tom Waterfield put in another huge performance behind the stumps and only 5 byes got past him, 4 of which were a long way down leg side.

Our bowling figures at the end made great reading.

Lewis 3 overs for 8 runs.
Ben 3 overs 1 for 22.
Tom 3 overs 1 for 11.
Will 3 overs 1 maiden 1 for 7
Myles 3 over for 15
George 3 overs for 8 runs.
Mitch and Harry 1 over each for 1 run each.

Man of the Match could have been given to any of them, once again everyone contributed to a great victory. The decision was to give it to Harry for his all round performance, scoring 25 no, and taking a catch and scoring with the direct hit for his run out.

It was very pleasing that we stuck to our task when defending a huge total. We were sharp and disciplined in the field, giving Sileby only 16 in extras, and strangling their innings so that they were never able to get going. It is great to know that we have a depth of squad with players from the B squad able to step up to the A team and fit in. This squad are showing great signs of kicking on from last year. They are all capable of playing in the older age groups, and will take a lot of beating at this level.

We have a few tougher games ahead of us in the next month which will give us a true measure of where we are. I look forward to these games which should be compelling viewing for all concerned.
