Lowdham v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Newark Alliance XI on Sun 08 May 2011 at 2pm
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets (0 Points)
Match report
After overnight rain Kegworth travelled out East to Lowdham to find an old fashioned uncovered sticky wicket. Winning the toss now being the most important job, Wade called heads the coin came down tails? you can bat first came the reply from the Lowdham skipper.. With a team consisting off 10 Juniors and the ageing captain Kegworth set about there task with a clear message from the skipper to get yourself in and do nothing stupid. After a steady start from Ellis and Skilbeck Kegworth lost there 1st wicket with the score on 8 when Ellis going back to a short ball was bowled by one that just got above ankle height, Then came 2 horrendous run outs when both Skilbeck and Davies hit balls to gully and unexpectantly set off for runs? This left Kegworth on 22 for 3 which soon became 24 for 6. Mark then join Will Wade to try and rebuild the innings, they took the score to 47 before Will was bowled by a ball that pitched and rolled all olong the floor to hit off stump, the rest of the innings didn't last much longer before Kegworth were all out for 58 in the 23rd over. The Tea interval was delayed and a straight turn around took place now Kegworth had to bowl and field out of there skin to try and get anything out of the game, The Lowdham openers faired much better on an ever drying wicket and were soon chasing down there target, The introduction of skipper Wade and after a poor 1st over from Such which cost 16 saw Kegworth start to take wickets as the pitch started to take some turn, with some good close catching from Hooper(2) Wade jnr and Skilbeck. After the loss of 4 wickets Lowdham duly wrapped up a victory in the 19th over. Wade snr taking 2 for 11 from 5 overs and Such taking 2 for 31 from 6.. Although a dissapointing result another 40 - 50 runs could have made for an interesting finish. Kegworth now host local rivals Gotham looking to break there league duck.
