Wollaton 2nd XI v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Newark Alliance XI on Sun 01 May 2011 at 2pm
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost by 8 runs (0 Points)
Match report
A second succesive defeat but a much improved performace, Having won the toss captain Wade decided to field first, Wollaton getting off to a good start until Williamson grabbed the 1st wicket, The introduction of Such gave Kegworth there second wicket fortunately given out caught to a ball that probably should have been called a no-ball.This bought in cooper to join Wollatons overseas player Owen who both continued to score freely up to the drinks interval. The introduction of Wade Snr and Ellis steadied the ship with some tight bowling both bowlers going for 3 runs an over. Some late hitting and further wickets for Such, Williamson and Wade Jnr saw Wollaton finish on 229 for 7 after there 40 overs.. After a wonderful tea, Kegworth set about scoring the 230 runs needed for victory but things did not start well with the early loss of Davies with the score on 7. This brought in the experienced Glover to join Skilbeck and soon the scoreboard started ticking over nicely. The introduction of young spinner Brown saw Glover give a tame catch to mid-off in his first over.At this point Kegworth's scoring slowed down and at the half way stage the score sat at 80 for 2wkts.So 150 runs required from the final 20 overs. The Kegworth batsmen took up the challenge and after a couple of quick wickets Sutton and Skilbeck put on a 65 run partnership for the 5th wicket. Skilbeck was the next to go after a fine innings of 63, Will Wade then joined Sutton to add another 43 runs before being bowled for 18, Unfortunately the loss of Sutton soon afterwards for 38 left Kegworth requiring 28 from the last 3 overs, Although they gave it a good go it proved just to much with the Innings finishing on 221 for 9. Next up is a trip to Lambley and hopefully a first win isn't to far away.
