Grace-Dieu Park v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 20 Jun 2010 at 10:00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By 73 runs
Match report
An excellent performance at Grace Dieu by the Kegworth team.
Losing the toss on a chilly morning we were put into bat. Mikey was bowled early on, which brought George and Nic into bat together. These two added 36 before Nic was unlucky to top edge a wide ball to the keeper. On another day it would have raced to the boundary for 4 and Nic would have retired not out, instead of being out for 22. Sam came into bat determined to hit the ball into the next county and played on after hitting 5. So, at the half way stage we were 65 for 3 and it looked like a repeat of our collapse at Appleby could be on the cards. George and Alex soon dispelled any fears of this, both retiring on 28 and 26 respectively. George's innings was measured, putting the bad ball away and keeping the singles going with lots of sharp calling and running. Alex "Hurricane" Davies smashed 2 fours and a six in his inings to inject some real momentum into the innings. When they retired, Jacob Consterdine and Dawson came to the wicket in quick succession. Jacob C, playing his first game for the U13s was bowled for 2 whilst trying to loft a ball back over the bowlers head. Jacob D meanwhile, scored a very sensible 9 with a lovely 4 through point and a couple of lovely glanced singles. Tim joined Jacob D for the last few balls and scored 3 not out.
So at the halfway stage we had posted our highest score of the season, 138 for 4. It is a small ground so the team decided to bowl their quicker bowlers uphill to try and cut down on extras. This was soon to pay dividends.
Grace Dieu opened their innings with 3 superb shots into the covers, one of which was almost caught by Tim Berridge, who was hurt in the process. So Alex's first over was eventful, and 4 runs were conceded. Sam opened the bowling at the other end and Mikey took a sharp catch of his first ball. Only 1 run came off the bat in Sam's 3 overs, and he took two further wickets with 2 good catches from Mikey and George. At the other end, Alex chipped in with 2 wickets of his own, Tom taking a skyer and Mikey taking another catch. Owen and Tyler then bowled steadily to keep the pressure on Grace Dieu, conceding just 4 runs off the bat in 4 overs, though they did concede 13 in wides and no balls.Tyler grabbed a wicket, Mikey taking his 4th catch of the innings.Jacob C and Jacob D then bowled another 4 overs conceding only 15, Jacob D only conceding 4 singles and bowling no wides or no balls. Nic and George then came onto bowl and only condeded 12 in 4 overs, with Nic bowling a maiden and taking 1 for 4. George bowled his usual strong line and his 1 for 8 could easily have been much better. Into the 19th over and Tim soon wrapped up the match with the last 2 wickets both bowled in consecutive balls.
A comprehensive victory, with a great team spirit shown, and everyone contributing with bat, ball or in the field. In truth there were 11 Man of the Match performances, but for his 28 not out and 2 wickets, the award went to Alex Davies.
