Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost by 12 runs
Match report
A very creditable performance from the team on a baking hot day against a team who had beaten us easily 2 weeks before. There were several superb bowling and batting performances, and we are definitley knocking on the door. With the league season starting in 2 weeks we can put the cup behind us and concentrate on the league now.
Barrow won the toss and batted first. Their opening batsmen both scored 25 and retired and the score was on 110 before we took our first wicket. Tyler, Michael, Tim and George all bowled well, either restricting Barrow or taking wickets. On another day Michael would have taken 4 or 5 wickets. Seb also bowled well, 3 overs for 11, but 9 byes came off his 3 overs. So, we allowed too many extras again, giving them 29 in wides, 12 in byes and 6 in no balls. In addition 4 edges were dropped or missed behind the stumps and a simple catch put down in the field. So whilst the fielding effort was good, ultimately the large number of extras let Barrow score 20 runs more than they should have, and probably cost us the game.
When we batted, we scored more with the bat than Barrow, 83 compared to their 76, but they bowled better a tighter line than us with only 16 in wides and no balls compared to our 35. Ultimately, that was cost us the game
Particular credit to Nic, Michael and George for keeping us up at the rate required. The batted with great responsibility and scored 17, 25 NO and 21 respectively. Our middle order were less successful, with Sam out first ball bowled behind his legs, and Seb out soon afterwards for 4 edging one to the keeper. This left 2 new batsmen in Tim and Mitch, with too much to do, and ultimately they remained not out but we fell 12 runs short.
Man of the match was Michael, for an all round great performance.
