Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Loughborough Greenfields on Fri 14 May 2010 at 18.00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost By 4 wickets

Match report An improved performance after the result at Barrow, but still ending in defeat, by 4 wickets with 3 1/2 overs to spare.

We put ourselves under too much pressure by not scoring runs quickly enough, not looking for singles, and with too many dot balls. In our 20 overs there were approx. 50 dot balls, or more than 8 overs! With the exception of Mitch., all of our wickets were avoidable as they were the result of poor running or bad shots. So, our innings fell a good 30 runs short of what was required. Greenfields scored very quickly and reached their total in 17 overs despite a middle order wobble. Some of our fielding was of the standard expected, but dropped catches and allowing easy runs and boundaries cost us dearly.

Kegworth won the toss and decided to bat first.

We were soon in trouble with Nic in the second over, followed quickly by George in the 4th, both run out taking risky singles. Michael and Sam increased the score to 46 before Michael was out LBW for 10. Sam and Seb increased the score to 70 at the half way stage of our innings before both were out to bad shots in quick succession, for 21 and 6 respectively. This brought Mitch and Tim together, who steadied the ship with a partnership of 57 off 9 overs, Mitch falling to the last ball of the innings for 19 and Tim ending 21 not out.

When Greenfields batted their openers quickly raced to 56 off 5 overs before they retired not out. Some poor bowling and risky shot selection, with a few dropped catches and mistakes in the field made our opponents task too easy. Special mention to Tim Berridge for his 2 for 22 off 4 overs, and Owen who bowled 4 overs for 23, as well as Michael, who bowled 1 over for 3. Highlight of the fielding performance was a stunning catch taken by Sam inches off the ground diving forward at mid wicket.

Some lessons learned for the team ahead of games on tuesday and sunday. We really need to start looking for gaps in the field to cut down on the dot balls and post better targets, and when we bowl, we need to take our chances and field with greater intensity.
