2013 Report....

08 Oct 2013

Kegworth Town Cricket Club closed the 2013 season with a resounding 146 run win over Sileby Town to clinch fifth place in the ECB Leicestershire Premier League and with it the accolade of being the highest placed club in the division based in the north of the county.

Inspired captaincy by Jordan Holmes, who claimed 40 wickets at an average of 15.90, Loughborough University student Jay O'Nien batted consistently to score 714 runs at 44.63, while Leicestershire CCC allocated player Michael Thornley scored a record breaking 183 not out against Ashby Hastings.

The 2nd XI struggled during the second half of the season, but victory in their final game ensured that they remained in County League Division Three. David Wall and Jonathan Cantrill were again the mainstay of the batting, while George Marrable, William Such and William Wade bridged the gap between junior and senior cricket with some useful performances.

The 3rd XI fell just short of promotion in Division Four of the Newark Alliance, but many of the junior section gained valuable experience in this team which will stand them in good stead for the future.

The junior section operated teams at Under 10, 11, 13, 15 and 17 age groups and all competed well throughout the summer.

Improvements were made to the pavilion during the close season including the addition of a new patio area which provided an excellent spectator facility throughout the summer.

The Clubman of the Year award went to Matt and Sara Turner, while Mike Daly and Jim Sibson were highly commended for their support of groundsman Dick Fowkes.

Individual winners of senior trophies were as follows:

1st XI Batting – Jay O’Nien 714 runs Average 44.63

2nd Batting – Jonathan Wall 279 runs Average 39.86
