Chairman's Christmas Message...

23 Dec 2020

As we reach the end of this traumatic year a short message to wish all members of Kegworth Town Cricket Club a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

It came as no surprise last week that the area was placed in Tier 3 and it is difficult to envisage a time when senior indoor nets can start. Winter training for the U11s, U13s and U15s will commence on Wednesday 13th January at Ockbrook School between 6pm and 7pm (more information to follow). I am currently hoping that this is not unduly pessimistic and all members can rest assured that we will be geared up to get underway as soon as we are allowed.

Next year we will enter two teams into the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League. We are hoping for a full fixture list starting in mid-April. I felt it was unrealistic to commit to league cricket for a 3rd XI, instead opting for a number of Sunday games. I made the final decision based on the feedback from players, the lack of certainty around COVID restrictions, player numbers and facility implications etc. I appreciate some members will be disappointed, but our attention and efforts will now be directed towards ensuring all members are catered for through a comprehensive list of Sunday fixtures. The decision will be reviewed again next year.

The Management Committee have been meeting on a regular basis since the pandemic took hold and I am grateful for their expertise and commitment in steering the ship through uncharted waters. We have obtained various tranches of Government and ECB support and remain in a reasonable financial position all things considered. A major factor in that has been the support of all our sponsors who have stood firmly behind the club and helped to weather the storm. At some point in 2021 we will get the chance to offer our gratitude in person.

I am writing this on 21st December – the shortest day – in what has seemed like the longest year. However, from now on the nights get lighter and it will not be too long before our ground starts to buzz with activity again.

I hope you all stay fit and strong and look forward to our paths crossing again as soon as possible in 2021.

As ever please contact me on my mobile 07806 530424 or email me on robert_moorhouse@hotmail.co.uk if you have anything you wish to ask or to offer.
