Grace-Dieu Park v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 03 May 2009 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won by 48 Runs

Match report An improved performance from the Under 13’s resulted in a comfortable victory by 48 runs at Grace Dieu on Sunday, however things looked very different when after 14 balls they found themselves at 3 for 3.

Grace Dieu won the toss and put Kegworth into bat. Will Such opened and was bowled first ball of the game. Further wickets quickly fell with two further batsmen losing their wickets, bowled without scoring.

Captain and Vice, Will Wade & Chris Ellis set up the recovery. They batted straight, sensibly and assisted by some good running between the wickets kept the score ticking along. The fifty mark was passed in the 11th over and some strong shots from Will meant he was able to retire at 25 at the end of the 13th over when the score stood at 66, the unbroken stand of 63 representing the under 13’s highest stand of this & the prior season.

Harry White came in and continued the good work. Chris was finally run out for 13 in the 17th over with the score on 96.

When the innings concluded, Kegworth had reached 120 for the loss of 4 wickets, an excellent recovery from the dire start with Harry White unbeaten on 13 runs (in one innings exceeding his aggregate from the whole of the 2008 season).

Will Wade opened the bowling for Kegworth and took two wickets in his first over. Chris Ellis kept it tight at the other end and could also have been rewarded with a wicket in the 4th over, however young Alex Corrie recovered quickly from his dropped catch and ran out the “ball watching” batsman. Will Wade took a further wicket (all clean bowled) in the 5th over leaving Grace Dieu in trouble at 7 for 4. The opening bowlers completed their spells with Kegworth in a commanding position, Will taking 3 for 8 and Chris’ figures suffering from lack of support from the field, conceding 10 from his four overs.

Wickets continued to fall as the young Grace Dieu batsmen (& women) increasingly concentrated on survival. Harry White, Nick Briggs (two wickets for three including a first stumping for Ben Hooper), Will Such and Alex Corrie all took wickets but Kegworth couldn’t take the final wickets and the innings closed on 72 for 9.

A match winning performance from Will Wade but ably supported by strong contributions from Chris Ellis, Harry White, Nick Briggs and others in a performance that restored confidence for the forthcoming season.
