In the latest in a succession of tight games at Long Whatton, the boys held their nerve to record a one run win.

Young Mitch Williams bowled an excellent final over denying Long Whatton the eleven runs they needed to win (although he was troubled initially by some poor fielding which on two occasions allowed two runs when they should have been restricted to a single). Needing three to win on the last ball, Whatton nearly scrambled the two byes needed to tie the game but Josh Faulks threw in accurately to achieve the run out bringing about the one run win.

Earlier Town had made a poor start to their innings and were 12 for 3 after 5 overs. Not for the first time Wade and Ellis turned the innings around with a 49 run partnership before Will was caught for 27 (including a big 6 into the adjoining field) with the fielder at full stretch.

Chris went on to make 17, Alex Davies was run out on a marginal decision after also putting the ball in the next field and Josh Faulks hit 13 in as many balls.

Long Whatton’s openers started well although Town managed to keep them generally just behind the required rate. The first wicket fell in the 16th with the score on 77. The position worsened with 9 runs from the 18th over but Will Wade responded in the 19th taking the second wicket and allowing only two runs and a bye leaving Mitch to bowl the final over.
