Loughborough Town v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 11's Hardball on Fri 15 May 2009 at 18.00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost By 42 runs

Match report A very tough match against a Loughborough Town team that fielded a number of Under 12s players against our relatively inexperienced team that had 5 players playing only their first or second hardball game for us.

The team played with great spirit and but for a flurry of wickets in the middle of our innings we would have got very close to beating Loughborough.

Loughborough won the toss and elected to bat on a cold, wet and dark evening at Park Road. Very tight opening 4 overs from Mitch Williams and Sam Wildgust saw Loughborough restricted to 12 runs and teh loss of 2 wickets, including a great ball from Sam to bowl their dangerous opener Alex Reed, and a fantastic throw from the deep by Ben O'Neill and take by Mitch to run out the other opener.

George Jones and Sam Trickett then bowled very economically and by teh end of tehir 4 overs the score was only 218 for 4, both taking a wicket, including a fantastic caught and bowled by Sam, and an inswinger from George that bowled the batsman middle stump. Ben and WIll then kept the store to 237 for 4 with only 4 overs to go, with neither conceding a boundary. Then Loughborough sent in their U12s, one of whom smashed the ball for 5 fours in the last 4 overs, leaving Loughborough on 280 for 4.

Particular praise is also due to the fielding of the whole team, with both Georges, Mitch and Ben all doing well to save boundaries and the whole team for fielding intelligently, with not a single overthrow in the whole innings.Tom Waterfield's captaincy should also be mentioned, marshalling his troops very well during Town's innings.

When Kegworth batted, we witnessed some very brave defence in the face of some very fast and hostile bowling that saw us fall behind quite quickly. Sam Wildgust and Tom Waterfield were very impressive in digging out yorker after yorker, with Tom out bowled to a very fast ball that he had a go at! Sam Trickett and George Jones lost 5 wickets in their 4 overs, but thats doesn't tell the story. They both faced some very fast and accurate bowling and Loughbotrough also took some good catches on the run.

Will Cockerill and George Bakewell-Smith then batted very well to add 18 runs, with Loughborough appealing for a number of LBWs which failed to rattle Will and George.

Our final pair were Ben O'Neill and Mitch Williams. A wonderful innings of 24 (inc. 5 fours) not out from Mitch ably assisted by Ben and was the highlight of the match for all watching.

Once again Kegworth Town U11s walk away from a match with their heads held high and the praise of the opposition and their supporters. We continue to play the game in the right way, with bags of spirit.

The younger members of the team all deserve a huge amount of credit, but there could only be one Man of the Match, congratulations to Mitch.
