Grace Dieu Park v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 15's B on Wed 20 Jun 2012 at 18:00
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost by 59 runs

Match report A match where we learned a lot about our team, and the structure of the league.

Every single player in Gracedieu's team was older than Kegworth's oldest player, and were a lot bigger and physically stronger. They bullied us in a way that we bullied teams at U13 last year, but huge credit to the lads, they never once buckled or walked away from the battle.

I say to the team every week when we bat, you can't win the game in the first 10 overs, but you can lose it if you lose too many wickets. Gracedieu served up a perfect example of this, when they went from 40 for 2 off 10 to 117 off 20. A few missed chances and some strange fielding positions from us, along with 27 extras saw Gracedieu set us a target of about a run a ball.

Despite this. huge credit to all the lads for some great fielding, and great bowling from Lewis and Tim. Lewis also took a good catch and with one stump to aim at, ran out their opener who looked set for 50. Jamie Shore was brilliant in the field, and George Jones was incredibly brave to the point that an attempted catch nearly took his hand off!

When we batted, the lads were sent out to see how we started and then we would evaluate our strategy. At 11 for 3 after 4 overs it was clear that the target of 118 was going to be almost impossible for us to achieve, so we set about batting for 20 overs, which we achieved through sheer determination and bravery. Tom, Sam, Jamie, George and Lewis may have only scored 13 runs between them, but they faced 61 balls of fearsome bowling, and stood up like men. Meanwhile Josh Faulks was calmly batting his way to 24 before beiong stumped in the 19th over of the innings for 24. This was not Josh's highest score for Kegworth, but it was his best ever batting performance, against a team where he had to play with great technique and concentration.

So, a learning for us, that there are probably 3 or 4 teams in our league who are bigger, older and stronger than us, but there is no shame in that. Now we must set our sights on finishing as high as we can in the league, and should aim for 3rd or 4th, which would be a great achievement when we regularly play with U10/11/12/13 players filling most of the team.

Man of the match was shared by Jamie and Josh for their fielding and batting endeavours.
