Barrow Town A v Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 09 May 2010 at 10.00am
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Lost by 10 wickets

Match report A hastily arranged friendly after our match againts Rowlatts Hill was called off, ending up with a bad day at the office for the U13s

We received a warm welcome from Barrow Town, on the most glorious of sunday mornings, won the toss and elected to bat.

Nic and Michael got us off to a steady start, adding 38 for the first wicket.Scoring was slow as Nic and Michael struggled to get the ball through their tight fielding ring, and after 8 overs we only had 30 on the board. Nic started the acceleration with a majestic 6 over square leg, but was out next ball attempting a repeat. This brought Sam to the wicket who crashed two fours in his 9 runs before being out stumped attempting to smash another one!

Next in was Seb who scored a very quick 12 runs before being well caught on the square leg boundary. George then scored a very quick 11 with a lovely cover drive for 4 before being stumped.

Michael retired having scored a very patient 28, Mitch Williams was caught at mid on off his first ball, and Owen and Jacob then saw out the last 3 overs adding a further 7 runs to leave us 106 for 5. Jacob played the shot of the match angling a rising ball down through 3rd man for 4, drawing much applause from his team mates.

So, at the half way stage we had a modest total, with Michael providing the anchor role well. We did wonder if it would be enough, knowing that Barrow's first 3 batsmen are all County players. It didn't take long to find out!!

A combination of bad bowling, lack lustre fielding, a flurry of no balls, wides, byes and leg byes saw Barrow reach their target without losing a wicket in 11 overs. 25 extras says so much about this performance, but we fielded without the intensity that we are used to seeing from this group. 21 alone off wides and no balls and 13 boundaries, along with missed catches, 4s that should have been stopped made it so much easier for Barrow.

Special mention should be given to Mitch Moseley and Ben O'Neill playing their first ever U13 games. Both fielded very well, and Mitch would have got two run outs on another day, narrowly failing with 2 direct hits.

Some matches we just have to admit that we were beaten by a better team, and this was one of them. We have a long way to go in the next 2 weeks if we are to get anywhere near Barrow when we play them a Kegworth in our last group match in the County Cup. Where we must improve is:-

1. Our scoring rate in the early overs of a match. Taking the fielders on more!
2. Our shot selection.
3. Knowing where our crease is!
4. Our overall fielding. Walking in, talking, fielding in groups and taking our catches.
5. Our bowling accuracy.

No harm done as this was a friendly, and will probably provide a wake up call to all the team. Fielding and bowling practise tonight!!!
