Kegworth Town Cricket Club Under 13's v Loughborough Carillon Old Boys on Mon 19 Apr 2010 at 6pm
Kegworth Town Cricket Club Won By 23 Runs

Match report A good start to the season played on a cool, grey evening against a friendly and young LCOB side.

The game was played in a good spirit, and Kegowrth were reasonably comfortable winners.

It helped that we won the toss and got to bat in full light, whereas our opponents innings started in the gloom and ended in a very dark evening!

Nic and Michael opened the innings for us and reached well into the 20s before Nic retired after scoring a very brisk 15 not out, with 2 boundaries. This brought George to the wicket who added 5 before being bowled. Michael retired on 18 not out, anchoring the innings with some sensible batting and great running between the wickets. A quickfire 7 from Seb, including a 6 over Mid wicket then saw Sam and Tim at the wicket. Sam raced to 15 off 10 balls to bring some momentum to our innings at the end, and Tim and Alex both ended on 4 not out as the innings closed at 96 for 2.

In the field we were soon off to a great start with both openers out without scoring. However, the tale of our fielding was too many wides, no balls and byes, with 33 runs off the bat and 40 in extras! Back to the bowlers,Seb bowled his usual hostile 2 overs for just 5 runs. Mitch bowled their no. 2 in the 2nd over, followed quickly by the run out of their opener after some good work in the field and smart glove work by Tom. Sam then followed up with our first LBW of the summer with a peach of a delivery that caught their batsman plum in front. Nic and George both weighed in with a wicket each,Nic getting a lot of turn for his wicket and George getting our 2nd LBW of the match and summer! leaving Old Boys way behind the run rate and at the end 24 runs short of their target, with Harry, Tyler and Tim restricting them to only 14 runs off the last 4 overs to make sure we enjoyed a comfortable victory.

A good all round performance, with Sam, Nic and Michael impossible to split as Man of the Match, all getting into double figures and taking a wicket.

Special mention to Harry, playing his first U13 game and bowling 2 good overs at the end when Old Boys were chasing the game.

A good result, with some very strong batting and bowling. Our fielding was not as sharp as it should be, and will need to be better against stronger sides or we will lose games in the field. That said, a win is a win. Its great to be back playing, and lets hope that the team that won us our first trophy indoors this winter can transfer their team spirit outside for a memorable summer!!
